Seoul: According to a statement from South Korea’s Foreign Ministry, the Korean government advisory group has been established after Washington approved Seoul’s plans to pursue low-level uranium enrichment and nuclear fuel reprocessing strictly for civilian use.

The move follows summit-level discussions held in October last year between Lee Jae-myung, President of South Korea, and Donald Trump, President of the United States.

Nuclear energy cooperation forms part of a broader agreement reached between the two allies in November, which also covered economic measures, including reductions in US tariffs.

Seoul is now seeking to amend its bilateral nuclear energy agreement with Washington to secure permanent prior approval for low-level uranium enrichment and the reprocessing of spent fuel.
