China’s non-ferrous metal output nears 20 million tons in 2025

China’s recycled non-ferrous metals sector witnessed a sharp rise in production during its 2021–2025 five-year plan, with output expected to hit 20 million tons by 2025.

BEIJING : Government data cited by Chinese media revealed that domestic production of recycled non-ferrous metals has maintained an impressive annual growth rate of 7.2 percent since 2021, reaching 19.15 million tons in 2024.

Ge Honglin, President of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, stated that China now accounts for nearly one-third of the world’s recycled non-ferrous metal output.

Between 2021 and 2024, this production boom contributed to saving approximately 3.6 billion tons of mining resources and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by around 560 million tons.

With a 7.2% annual growth rate, China's recycled non-ferrous metal output hit 19.15 million tons in 2024, nearing 20 million tons by 2025. This growth has positioned China as a leader, contributing to significant resource savings and emission reductions, underscoring its commitment to sustainable industrial practices.
