MUSCAT : Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India continues to be the world’s fastest-growing major economy, as he addressed a packed gathering of the Indian diaspora, including students, during his official visit to Oman.

Speaking at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on Thursday, Modi said India’s economic performance had been achieved despite global challenges, underscoring the country’s resilience and reform-driven growth trajectory.

“India continues to be the fastest-growing major economy in the world,” Modi said, adding that the achievement had come at a time when much of the global economy was facing uncertainty.

The prime minister said 21st-century India was characterised by bold thinking and decisive action. “Today’s India takes bold decisions, makes swift decisions, moves ahead with big goals and delivers results within a defined timeline,” he said.

Modi also highlighted the role of the Indian diaspora as a bridge between India and Oman, praising the community for its contribution to the Sultanate’s development while strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The address formed part of Modi’s official visit to Oman, aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation across economic, cultural and community spheres, building on centuries-old maritime links and a long-standing partnership between the two nations.
