"Mohanlal epitomises excellence,” says PM Modi as Malayalam superstar wins Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Prime Minister congratulates the legend actor, praising his “cinematic and theatrical brilliance” across languages as he is honoured with India’s top film award.

NEW DELHI — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated legendary Malayalam actor Mohanlal on being conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest honour in cinema, praising him as a symbol of “excellence and versatility.”

In a message posted on social media, Modi said Mohanlal epitomises dedication and artistic brilliance across mediums, with a career spanning decades in Malayalam cinema, theatre, and performances in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi films.

“His cinematic and theatrical brilliance across mediums is truly inspiring. Congratulations to him on being conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. May his accomplishments continue to inspire generations to come,” Modi wrote.

Mohanlal, one of India’s most acclaimed actors, is known for his versatility and deep passion for the cultural identity of Kerala. The award, named after the pioneer of Indian cinema, recognises outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Indian film.
