Stricter curbs enforced on Delhi as air quality hits ‘Dangerous’ levels

New Delhi authorities have imposed tougher anti-pollution measures as the capital’s air quality plunged to “dangerous” levels.

New Delhi: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) announced that the third phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been implemented in the capital and surrounding regions to prevent further deterioration in air quality.

Under the latest curbs, authorities have banned unnecessary construction activities and imposed restrictions on industries using polluting fuels. These measures come as thick smog continues to blanket the city, reducing visibility and raising health concerns among residents.

Earlier this week, tensions escalated when dozens of protestors were detained by police at the India Gate monument during rare demonstrations demanding cleaner air and stronger environmental action.

The capital, already known for some of the world’s worst air pollution levels, faces its annual crisis as winter approaches and stagnant air traps pollutants from vehicles, industry, and crop burning.
