New Delhi: The six-lane greenfield corridor, named the Ganga Expressway after the holy river that flows through the state, stretches approximately 594 km and is expected to significantly cut travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj.
Constructed at a cost of ₹362.30 billion (around $3.82 billion), the expressway has been developed by Adani Enterprises and IRB Infrastructure Developers. It stands as the longest expressway in northern India and is being positioned as a critical link for economic activity.
Officials say the expressway will serve as a launchpad for future industrial corridors, opening up new avenues for manufacturing, logistics, and regional development. It is also expected to improve access to agricultural markets and promote tourism across cities and towns along its route.
The inauguration comes amid a broader push by the Indian government to ramp up infrastructure investment following the COVID-19 pandemic. In the latest budget, a record ₹12.2 trillion has been allocated for infrastructure spending, underlining the government’s focus on long-term economic growth.
