Trump’s H-1B visa fee hike spurs US firms to shift work to India

Global capability centres expected to grow as companies redraw labour strategies.

BENGALURU : US President Donald Trump’s decision to raise H-1B visa application fees to $100,000 is expected to accelerate the shift of high-value work by American companies to India, industry experts said on Tuesday.

India already hosts more than 1,700 global capability centres (GCCs) handling operations from finance to research, and analysts say firms are preparing to expand these hubs as visa restrictions tighten.

“Plans are already under way,” said Rohan Lobo of Deloitte India, noting US companies are reassessing workforce needs and moving strategic work to India.

The hike in H-1B visa fees by President Trump is leading US firms to move more work to India. With over 1,700 global capability centers, companies are expanding their operations in response to the increased costs and visa limitations.
