SEOUL : Held on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju, South Korea and according to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, Trump made the remarks shortly after concluding his summit with President Lee, highlighting what he described as a “great meeting” and a step forward in the two nations’ economic partnership.

“We have reached an agreement, and we have done many different things,” Trump said during a dinner hosted by Lee in his honor. “It was a great meeting. It’s an honor for us.”

The summit drew close attention as both allies worked to finalize the details of a framework trade agreement initially reached in July. Under the terms discussed, South Korea committed to investing US$350 billion in the United States, while Washington would reduce its “reciprocal” tariffs from 25% to 15%.

While Trump declined to reveal further details of the deal, he confirmed that “a lot of things were identified and largely agreed upon,” adding that the talks also touched on “national security and other very important matters.”

Reaffirming his stance on regional security, Trump said he remains committed to easing tensions on the Korean Peninsula, noting that North Korea “has not been as nice as it should be.” He added, “I know Kim Jong-un very well, and I think things will go well.”
