NEW DELHI : Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Russian President Vladimir Putin at Delhi airport on Thursday evening, greeting him with a handshake, a warm embrace and brief exchanges before the two departed in the same vehicle.

Russia’s state-owned Sputnik news agency reported that Modi’s decision to personally greet Putin described as a break from standard protocol added a “personal touch” to the visit and came as an unexpected gesture for the Russian delegation.
