Argentina aligns with US and brands Iran’s IRGC a terrorist group

Argentina has officially designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

BUENOS AIRES : Argentina’s presidential office confirmed on Tuesday that the government has classified the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist entity. The decision follows growing international pressure, including calls from the administration of Donald Trump, urging allies to adopt a tougher stance against the group.

The move is rooted in Argentina’s long-standing accusations against the IRGC for supporting Hezbollah, which Buenos Aires holds responsible for the devastating 1994 AMIA bombing. The attack remains the deadliest in Argentina’s history, killing 85 people and injuring hundreds.

Officials stated that the designation will enable authorities to impose financial sanctions and enforce broader operational restrictions on entities linked to the IRGC. The group, an elite military force in Iran, is tasked with safeguarding the country’s clerical leadership and holds significant influence over large sectors of Iran’s economy.

The IRGC and Hezbollah have already been labeled as terrorist organizations by the United States and several other nations. Argentina’s latest decision signals a deeper alignment with Washington under President Javier Milei.

In a related move just days earlier, Argentina also designated the Jalisco New Generation Cartel as a terrorist organization, further reinforcing its shift toward a stricter national security framework and closer cooperation with U.S. policies.
