PARIS : With the 21-17, 21-15 victory, the 30-year-old is now just one win away from clinching her sixth medal at the prestigious event.

On Thursday, August 28, Sindhu showcased flashes of the brilliance that won her Olympic silver in Rio and World Championship gold in 2019. Attacking with precision and aggression, she dominated Wang, one of the season’s most consistent performers, to secure her first World Championships quarterfinal berth since 2021.

The 15th seed will next face Indonesia’s ninth seed Putri Kusuma Wardani in the quarterfinals on Friday. A win would assure Sindhu a sixth medal at the event, underlining her legacy as one of India’s greatest badminton players.

Sindhu also extended her perfect record against Chinese opponents at the World Championships to 8-0. Her fierce roars after winning critical points reflected her hunger, while her emotional embrace with coach Irwansyah highlighted the Indonesian tactician’s role in keeping her composed throughout the match.
