NEW DELHI : A Bench of Justices J.K. Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi refused to grant an urgent hearing to the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by four law students. The petitioners had argued that staging a match against Pakistan so soon after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor would send the wrong message, potentially hurting the morale of the armed forces and the families of martyrs.
Despite their counsel’s request for the matter to at least be listed, the Bench declined to entertain the plea, reiterating that the sporting event would proceed without disruption.
The PIL emphasized that cricket should not be placed above national security or the sacrifices of soldiers, warning that such contests could cause distress to victims’ families. However, with the Court’s refusal, the much-anticipated India-Pakistan encounter remains firmly on schedule for Sunday in Dubai.
