Samsung crowned South Korea’s AI leader, outpaced by Google, Microsoft, Meta

Samsung Electronics has been ranked first among South Korean companies in artificial intelligence (AI) competitiveness.

SEOUL : The report, released by CEO Score and cited by Yonhap News Agency, placed Samsung at the top of the domestic list, followed by Naver and LG. The ranking was based on multiple indicators, including patent registrations and citations, academic performance, and AI workforce employment.

Samsung showed strong competitiveness across all areas, while Naver excelled in academic publications, and LG led in patent filings. Despite these strengths, South Korean firms remain behind international leaders in academic output.

Globally, Alphabet, Google’s parent company, ranked first with 820 AI research papers published in the world’s top three journals, followed by Microsoft with 414 papers and Meta with 385. By contrast, Samsung placed 12th with 59 published papers, while Naver came in 30th and LG in 40th.
