LinkedIn to slash jobs as tech layoff wave continues

Professional networking giant LinkedIn is planning to cut around 5 per cent of its workforce in the latest wave of layoffs hitting the global technology sector.

WASHINGTON : The Microsoft-owned company is expected to announce the layoffs on Wednesday as part of an internal reorganisation aimed at shifting focus towards faster-growing areas of the business, two people familiar with the development told Reuters.

LinkedIn currently employs more than 17,500 full-time staff globally, according to information available on its website. Reuters could not immediately determine which teams or regions would be affected by the cuts.

The move comes even as LinkedIn posted strong business growth. Revenue for the platform, which generates income through recruitment tools, advertising and premium subscriptions, rose 12 per cent in the latest quarter compared to the same period last year, according to Microsoft’s recent securities filings.

Sources told Reuters that the layoffs are part of broader restructuring efforts and are not linked to artificial intelligence replacing jobs within the company.

Microsoft-owned LinkedIn plans to slash jobs as it undertakes a major internal reshuffle to refocus on faster-growing segments of its business. The company, which has more than 17,500 employees globally, continues to post strong results, including a 12 per cent revenue rise in the latest quarter. Sources say the cuts are part of broader restructuring and not driven by artificial intelligence concerns.
