IndiGo denies reports CEO Pieter Elbers asked to resign amid flight disruptions

India’s largest airline rejects speculation as cancellations mount; government orders pending refunds to be cleared by Sunday.

MUMBAI — IndiGo on Saturday denied media reports claiming that its Chief Executive Officer, Pieter Elbers, had been asked to resign, as the airline battles one of the worst operational disruptions in its history.

The carrier has suffered hundreds of cancellations after India’s aviation regulator enforced stricter flight duty and rest rules for pilots, triggering widespread scheduling challenges.

A company source informed that Elbers remains “actively involved in resolving the ongoing issues,” adding that he has been stationed at the airline’s operations command centre “motivating employees and overseeing recovery efforts.”

India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has ordered IndiGo to process all pending passenger refunds by 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, following mounting frustration over delays and cancellations. The disruptions have so far led to 405 domestic flights being cancelled, according to industry sources.
