MUMBAI : Ambani has edged past Gautam Adani and family, who stand at ₹8.15 lakh crore, reaffirming his dominance in India’s billionaire hierarchy.
The list, unveiled today, also recorded a historic milestone, Roshni Nadar Malhotra entered the top three with ₹2.84 lakh crore, becoming the first woman to reach that rank and cementing her place as India’s richest woman.
India’s billionaire club continues to swell at record pace, now boasting 358 dollar billionaires, a sixfold surge since the list was first published 13 years ago. Together, they command ₹167 lakh crore, nearly half of India’s GDP, with wealth expanding by 5% year-on-year. According to the report, India minted more than one billionaire a week, with wealth creators adding ₹1,991 crore daily during the review period.
Among the new billionaires are some surprise names. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan officially joined the club for the first time with ₹12,490 crore, thanks largely to the success of his production house Red Chillies Entertainment.
On the tech front, the youngest billionaire is 31-year-old Aravind Srinivas, founder of AI startup Perplexity, who amassed ₹21,190 crore. Meanwhile, Zepto co-founders Kaivalya Vohra (22) and Aadit Palicha (23) continue to be the youngest entrants overall, underscoring the rise of India’s startup ecosystem.
Mumbai remains the undisputed billionaire capital with 451 entries, followed by New Delhi (223) and Bengaluru (116). Sector-wise, pharmaceuticals lead with 137 entries, trailed by industrial products (132) and chemicals & petrochemicals (125).
The 2025 list also highlights India’s shifting wealth landscape. A record 101 women feature on the list, including 26 dollar billionaires. Self-made entrepreneurs dominate, accounting for 66% of entries, while 74% of newcomers are first-generation wealth creators.
The year’s biggest gainer was Niraj Bajaj and family of the Bajaj Group, who added ₹69,875 crore to reach a net worth of ₹2.33 lakh crore.
