MUSCAT : In a landmark step towards deepening economic cooperation, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan have reaffirmed their shared vision to raise bilateral trade between Oman and Turkey to USD 5 billion in the coming years.

The announcement came during President Erdogan’s official visit to Muscat on October 23, 2025, where both leaders held extensive talks on advancing trade, industry, investment, and cultural exchange. The discussions marked a continuation of the constructive dialogue initiated during His Majesty’s state visit to Ankara last November — a visit that ushered in what both sides describe as “a new bright chapter of strategic partnership.”

His Majesty expressed satisfaction with the strong momentum in economic relations, highlighting the growth in trade volume and the launch of the joint investment fund as key pillars of collaboration. His Majesty the Sultan also emphasized the shared aspiration to realize the USD 5 billion trade target, aligning with the diversification and investment priorities of Oman Vision 2040.

As part of the outcomes of the visit, both nations announced a reciprocal visa exemption Oman for Turkish citizens and Turkey for Omanis, a move expected to boost business travel, tourism, and bilateral trade flows.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to support ongoing negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between Turkey and the GCC, recognizing it as a catalyst for regional integration and market access. They also underscored the importance of cooperation in manufacturing, logistics, and defense industries, alongside cultural and academic exchange between universities and research institutions.

On regional affairs, His Majesty praised Turkey’s constructive role in fostering peace and stability, particularly its efforts to help secure the Gaza ceasefire agreement in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Describing Omani–Turkish ties as a “vibrant model of partnership built on trust and mutual respect,” His Majesty called on public and private sector entities in both nations to seize emerging opportunities in trade and investment, ensuring tangible benefits for their people.

Summary

During President Erdoğan's visit to Muscat, Oman and Turkey committed to elevating their trade relations to $5 billion. The leaders emphasized cooperation in various sectors, including manufacturing and defense, and announced visa exemptions to enhance bilateral exchanges, marking a significant step in their strategic partnership.
