Geneva: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi in Geneva for what officials described as complex and detailed technical discussions concerning Tehran’s nuclear activities.
Grossi confirmed that the discussions focused on technical issues and were aimed at laying the groundwork for broader talks set to take place on Tuesday in Geneva between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America.
Speaking from Geneva, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the meetings would address sensitive matters, including the level of uranium enrichment and the number of centrifuges operating in nuclear reactors.
“We came to Geneva with a full delegation, accompanied by experts in the economic and nuclear fields,” Baghaei stated, underscoring the technical depth of the negotiations.
He further stressed that the issue of lifting economic sanctions on Iran remains closely linked to all diplomatic tracks, indicating that sanctions relief is a central component of the ongoing discussions.
Baghaei reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to its international obligations, noting that as a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Tehran remains bound by its safeguards agreement. He said the IAEA has conducted inspections of undamaged facilities and confirmed that Iran has fully complied with its commitments in this regard.
The Iranian spokesman also highlighted the continued importance of the IAEA, describing it as the body responsible for implementing safeguards and capable of playing a constructive and positive role in the diplomatic process.
