Cape Town: Speaking to local media on the sidelines of a conference in Cape Town, President Cyril Ramaphosa said South Africa is prepared to step in as a mediator in the Middle East conflict if the opportunity arises.
Ramaphosa stressed that South Africa has consistently supported peaceful solutions to global conflicts and believes dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective ways to prevent further escalation.
He highlighted the importance of avoiding the expansion of the conflict in the region, noting that diplomatic engagement between all parties is essential to maintaining stability.
The president also stated that South Africa would work closely with regional and international partners should it be requested to take on an official mediation role.
