MUSCAT : Speaking at the international forum, His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Omar bin Saeed Al Kathiri, Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations, underscored that empowering Omani women remains a key pillar of the nation’s development agenda. He emphasized that Oman continues to strengthen justice and gender equality in line with its regional and global commitments.

The Sultanate highlighted that women’s access to justice is not merely a target but a fundamental component of sustainable national development. Oman’s approach aligns with international conventions and the Sustainable Development Goals, reinforcing its position on the global stage.

Ambassador Al Kathiri noted that the State’s Basic Law guarantees equality before the law, supported by national legislation that ensures women’s rights across social and economic sectors. Initiatives such as expanded social insurance coverage, equal access to education, and equal opportunities in elections and candidacy have further strengthened women’s participation in society.

He also pointed to the significant progress made by Omani women across various sectors. Women have increased their representation in the judiciary, particularly within the Public Prosecution, and have established a strong presence in finance, insurance, information technology, research, and civil society leadership roles.

The statement revealed that women account for 49.9 percent of beneficiaries of social protection programmes, reflecting their growing role as active contributors to the country’s development.

Concluding his remarks, Ambassador Al Kathiri affirmed that Oman has implemented comprehensive legislative and judicial systems to ensure access to justice for all, including women. These systems provide the right to litigation, protection, and efficient legal processes supported by advanced technical services, reinforcing transparency and the rule of law.
