WASHINGTON : In an interview with USA Today, Vance said the 79-year-old president has “incredible energy” and is fit to serve out his full term in the White House. “I feel very confident the president of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people,” the 41-year-old vice president said.
Vance’s comments come after images circulated of a large bruise on Trump’s hand during his meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung earlier this month, fueling speculation about his health. Trump, who took office in January at 78 years and seven months, is the oldest president in U.S. history to be sworn in, edging out Joe Biden, who was 78 and two months at his inauguration in 2021.
Still, Vance insisted he was ready for the responsibilities of the presidency if required. “If, God forbid, there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days,” he said.
Trump has called Vance his “most likely heir” to the MAGA movement, though the vice president has brushed off speculation about his 2028 plans. For now, Vance said his focus remains on supporting Trump’s agenda and strengthening his leadership experience.
Vance, the third-youngest vice president in American history, continues to balance loyalty to Trump with his own rising profile, fueling speculation about his political future even as he pledges full confidence in the president’s ability to serve.
