NEW YORK : The session, designated a special event on the Council’s agenda at the request of the Russian Federation, its current chair for the month, brought together member states to deliberate on the persistent volatility across the region.

At the outset of the meeting, Ramiz Alakbarov, Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, delivered a briefing outlining recent developments and humanitarian concerns. His address highlighted the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation and to revive prospects for peace.

This open debate forms part of the Council’s quarterly review of the Palestinian issue and comes amid growing international concern over deteriorating conditions in the occupied territories.
