MEERUT – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday criticised the opposition Indian National Congress over a protest staged by its youth wing at the India AI Impact Summit, calling the demonstration “dirty and naked politics” that tarnished a major international event.

Addressing a public rally in the northern city of Meerut, Modi said the protest at Bharat Mandapam, the venue hosting the global technology gathering, reflected what he described as the Congress party’s “ideological weaknesses”.

“Other opposition parties did not indulge in such acts,” Modi said, naming groups including the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the National Conference. He accused only the Congress of attempting to “ruin the country” through sensational protests.

The demonstration by members of the Congress youth wing had drawn attention during the summit, which brought together policymakers, industry leaders and technology experts to discuss artificial intelligence and innovation.

Modi said that anyone aspiring to lead the country must first earn the trust and support of the people rather than resort to dramatic protests. “Public support is the key to leadership,” he told supporters.
