The Council emphasised the importance of adhering to international law and upholding the principle of the right to self-determination. It stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to de-escalation and long-term stability in the region.
Calling for urgent measures to safeguard global peace, the Security Council was urged to take immediate action, including convening an emergency special session of the General Assembly to address the crisis.
The Council also appealed to the UN Secretary-General to use his good offices to facilitate a peaceful resolution.
